It all began in the early fifties, it was a time of optimism and prosperity. The economy was moving out of the war years and there was a renewed enthusiasm for the future. People lived in close-knit communities and merchants knew their neighbours and customers, often anticipating the products and services their customers needed.
Today Island Savings is part of First West Credit Union, one of Canada’s strongest and most innovative cooperative financial institutions. We’re obsessed with one core purpose: to simplify lives, helping our members and communities thrive.
As a credit union, our profits go back to you. That's how we're able to offer free personal chequing with no strings attached, with free Interac e-Transfer®, low-fee business accounts, better mortgage rates and higher rates on your deposits.
That's also how we can provide the best advice that's in your interest. Whether you're starting a new business or buying a home or planning for your retirement, our experts take the time to learn what matters to you.
We grow because you grow, not at your expense.
Our roots are still the same. Our heart has always been for local businesses, local communities, neighbours helping neighbours succeed.
“For nearly 70 years the team at Island Savings has been helping local families and businesses succeed through a cooperative approach to banking that keeps resources right here in our communities. We help our members thrive by providing expert financial advice, market-leading digital services and remarkable relationship-based experiences. Our members can bank when, where and how they want. Giving back to our communities is also a key part of who we are—we’re proud partners with many local community organizations and causes, and together we’re making Vancouver Island and the Southern Gulf Islands an even better place to live, work and play.”
