THE FULL CUPBOARD

Raising food, funds and awareness for food insecurity in our communities

Island Savings is dedicated to combating food insecurity through various initiatives, from regular fundraising to partnerships and community programs. Thanks to the unwavering support of our valued members, community partners, and passionate team members, since its inception in 2016, The Full Cupboard, has raised $781,267 and collected 18,298 pounds of food for our 12 food bank partners as of 2025.

Together we can make an impact

Hunger touches lives in every corner of our community. Help today by supporting The Full Cupboard. Drop off non-perishable food or make a donation at any Island Savings branch. Donate online with our community partner Food Banks BC.

All food and funds donated to The Full Cupboard stay in the community they are collected in.

Let’s make a meaningful difference, because together, we can do more than fill empty shelves. We can help our community flourish.

Food access

In partnership with Food Banks BC, we actively address the need for supplemental food resources through donations of non-perishable items and monetary contributions. Together, we help provide access to sufficient, nutritious food for individuals and families across the Vancouver Island, Pender Island and Salt Spring Island.

Food security

Through local investment, we strengthen the financial sustainability and operational capacity of local food banks. Our efforts support both immediate access to nutritious food and long-term solutions that address systemic barriers to food equity, with contributions
remaining in the communities where they are donated ensuring meaningful local impact.

Agricultural investment

Our community and banking teams support and empower diverse agricultural developments by funding and financing local
agricultural projects. From community gardens, workshops and
skill building, we help create sustainable food systems that
promote food security, economic inclusion and climate resilience.

Advocacy and systemic change

Through collaboration, volunteering and fundraising, we raise
awareness and drive action towards achieving SDG #2 Zero
Hunger. Through investing, amplifying community voices and
tracking the impact of our efforts, we help create structural
change that addresses the root causes of food insecurity and
promotes long-term community resilience.

With many food banks across our region, we understand that some may receive fewer donations than others. That’s why we created the “Greatest Need Food Bank” category. When you choose this option, your donation goes into a shared pool. Each quarter, Food Banks BC identifies which food banks received the least support, and we distribute these funds equitably, ensuring every community benefits from The Full Cupboard.

Where does the money I donate go?
100% of your donation goes directly to the local food bank you choose. That means your contribution stays right in your community, helping your neighbors and strengthening local support systems. The Full Cupboard is designed to make a visible, local impact.

Can I donate to more than one food bank?
Absolutely! Since you get to choose which food bank receives your donation, you're welcome to support multiple food banks. It’s a great way to extend your generosity across different communities.

Can I donate on a regular basis?
Yes, you can set up a pre-authorized donation to the food bank of your choice, in any amount and frequency that suits you. For example, if you'd like to contribute $20 every other Friday, just let us know. We’ll handle the rest, so your giving is effortless and consistent.

What if I don't bank with Island Savings, can I still donate?
Definitely! You don’t need to be an Island Savings member to support The Full Cupboard. You can make a cash donation at any Island Savings branch, or donate online through our community partner, Food Banks BC.

How do I get a tax receipt?
If you donate online, you’ll receive your charitable tax receipt instantly from Food Banks BC. We’ve covered all administrative fees, so 100% of your donation goes directly to your chosen food bank. For cash donations of $20 or more made at an Island Savings branch, you’ll receive a tax receipt from the selected food bank twice a year. If you’ve set up pre-authorized donations, you’ll receive a consolidated receipt at year-end.

What does “Greatest Need Food Bank” mean on the donation page?
This option is for donors who want to support The Full Cupboard but don’t have a specific food bank in mind. Every quarter, Food Banks BC identifies which food banks received the fewest donations. We then distribute the greatest need funds equitably to help ensure all communities benefit from the program.

Why was The Full Cupboard set up?
The Full Cupboard was created to address food insecurity in our communities and ensure that no one goes without the nourishment they need to flourish.
