COMMUNITY IMPACT

Together, we create a future where everyone can flourish

We believe in supporting local non-profit and charitable organizations that serve the most vulnerable in our communities. We create capacity in the social sector by leveraging our financial strength and our social vision, Lead Well. Through Lead Well, employees volunteer their time and skills to help our communities flourish.

The Full Cupboard

We’re committed to fighting food insecurity through our signature cause, The Full Cupboard, local partnerships, and community programs. Since 2016, Island Savings team members, members, and communities have raised over $765,889, the equivalent of 1.5 million meals. Our team members support this effort by volunteering, running food drives, and raising awareness to strengthen community well-being.

BC Cancer Foundation, opens in a new tab

Cancer touches many lives, including our colleague Lisa and her husband, who both faced the disease and emerged with a renewed appreciation for life. With one in two British Columbians affected, we’ve committed $400,000 over four years to the BC Cancer Foundation, supporting research, innovative care, and team engagement through initiatives like the Workout to Conquer Cancer Challenge.

First West Foundation, opens in a new tab

Established in 1996, the First West Foundation is our philanthropic partner. As a federally registered charity, it supports communities through grant-making and partnerships with local charities via four community endowments—Envision Financial, Enderby & District Financial, Island Savings, and Valley First—and 14 named endowments across B.C. Since inception, it has awarded over $12.6 million in grants, including $975,759 to 100 charities in 2024.

Island Savings in the community

We believe in the power of partnership, working together to achieve social impact and make a difference in our communities.

At Island Savings, we believe in the power of partnership, a shared commitment to creating lasting, positive change in our local communities. Whether through marketing sponsorships or community investments, we’re proud to support initiatives that align with our values and goals.

Volunteering is a key part of Island Savings social vision. Through our Lead Well program, team members grow as leaders while giving back. In 2024, they contributed over 2,000 hours—both during work and personal time—to support those in need and strengthen communities across B.C.

How we help

Driving meaningful change where individuals and communities can truly flourish.

Cowichan Valley Youth Services, opens in a new tab

Cowichan Valley Youth Services (CVYS), support youth to cultivate relationships within themselves, to repair and strengthen relationships with their family members, and to begin developing relationship with their community.

In the 2024-2025, Island savings partnered with CVYS to support 30 individuals (between the age of 13-18), through more than 900 hours of individual counselling sessions.

By offering a safe, non-judgmental space, the Youth and Family Outreach Counsellor supports youth in exploring the challenges they face. Together, they begin identifying solutions—practicing coping strategies, developing healthier communication patterns, and navigating conflict—empowering youth to chart a positive and healthy path forward.

Clements Centre, opens in a new tab

In 2024, Island Savings expanded its partnership with Clements Centre, a charity located in Duncan, to support The Mindful Mouthful—a social enterprise bakery that creates meaningful jobs for people with developmental disabilities. It’s a supportive space where employees can build skills and confidence.

Funding helped purchase a key piece of equipment, allowing the bakery to increase production, grow its revenue, and work toward expanding employment opportunities. This investment supports long-term impact and helps community partners build sustainable models.

There are many ways to enjoy something fresh from The Mindful Mouthful kitchen!

FED Urban Agriculture Society, opens in a new tab

FED Urban Agriculture in Victoria is a charity focused on food access, garden creation, and community education. In 2024, FED grew 7,470 lbs of produce and donated over 800 lbs.  As you walk through Downtown Victoria, you’ll see FED’s urban learning gardens where they host workshops. With support from our partnership, FED launched the Community Harvest Program, which delivered 70 food boxes to local partners and helped create mini gardens in unused spaces like rooftops.

FED’s urban farm also operates as a dual social enterprise, teaching sustainable food systems, educating the community, and supplying fresh produce to local restaurants and residents.
